Ha Giang: Nature, Beauty and Traditions
Ha Giang, the capital of Hà Giang Province, is a town located on the east bank of the Lô River in the Northeast region of Vietnam and has an area of 168.7 square kilometers. It borders Cao Bang province in the east, Yen Bai and Lao Cai province in the west and Tuyen Quang in the south.
As it is sitting in a mountainous region, cool climate is observed year-round. But what people come for is its unique and impressive landscapes as well the unique experiences with the hill tribes’ long-standing living tradition. Ha Giang has many mountains such as Tay Con Linh with 2.419 meters height, there has many old growth forests, many precious wood, and 1.000 kinds of rare herbs. When here, tourists can also witness the beauty of step rice field in Hoang Su Phi which turns golden yellow during ripe season. This pristine valley can be explored easily on foot, thus getting around would be a breeze.
Alternatively one may get around by taxi motorbike which is ubiquitous in the town, and can also be another fun experience. Traveling to Ha Giang, travelers should never miss a visit to Khau Vai love market, which is made only for those who have failed in their love andwould want to come and see their old lovers. They come together to mingle and then again return to the family when sunset falls. Such unique tradition could not be found in many cultures.
Ha Giang is 320 km north of Ha Noi via Road No.2. The road conditions are fairly good traveling through Vinh Phuc, Phu Tho and Tuyen Quang Provinces. When planning to come here, many would suggest around or after the Tet holidays (from February to May) when the weather is most comfortable. During this time, the scenery in Ha Giang is also magnificent with mountaintops hiding in the cloud and wild peach flowers blooming everywhere.
