Hoang Su Phi: a Charming Destination
The most untouched area of Ha Giang Province, Hoang Su Phi is an upland district border with the gift of pristine beauty of the wild mountains and the authentic culture of the local ethnic groups which include: the Nung, the Flower H'mong, the Tay and the Ha Nhi People.
Visiting here would easily display to visitors how the cultural features of the traditional character of the ethnic tribes were kept intact. Located 60km from Tan Quang Town, this capital town has more than 55.800 people occupying 9.700 households within 25 communes. One third of the population resides in the highlands.
Hoang Su Phi is famous for its terraced paddy-fields which have been recognized as a national heritage site by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Created around 300 years ago, the magnificent terraced fields have been cultivated by local ethnic groups up to present, a culture which have been handed down through generations by the district's 14 ethnic groups.
When wanting to visit this pure natural beauty of Vietnam, October is the best month to come in time for harvest as the paddy-fields turn yellow with ripening rice and is always a spectacle to watch. Through exchange with the friendly locals, much can be learnt about their daily lives and of their very rich, preserved culture. Visiting here, tourists can also get hands-on lessons on traditional weaving, dyeing, paper made with straw and other interesting handicrafts.
