Two Vietnam Beaches in CNN’s Top 100 List

The giant news organization Cable News Network (CNN) has included two Vietnamese beaches on its list of the best 100 beaches in the world.

According to the Atlanta-based cable news channel, the An Bang Beach in Hoi An and Long Beach in Phu Quoc were among the best destinations for beach bums across the globe. It listed An Bang Beach on No. 86 and Long Beach on No. 93.

The list was published on their website on May 30 and was said to be populated based on the opinions from its “most well traveled friends, colleagues and cohorts.” It is unclear in the publication, however, as to how many people were surveyed.

An Bang lies 3km away from the famous ancient town of Hoi An and is described as having “gentle waves and soft, white sand”. CNN also highlighted its Western-managed bars and restaurants as well as its specialized local restaurants specializing in the preparation of the famous Vietnamese imperial cuisine as among the many attractions to foreign tourists.

The beach has nearly four-kilometer of coastline which is regularly maintained and cleaned by the locals. It cleanliness and innate beauty provides a romantic setting for couples. The friendly villagers always ensure that visitors to the beach always leave with pleasant experiences.

In 2011, An Bang also landed the 43rd position among the world’s top 50 beaches by CNNGo, the channel’s travel website.

Phu Quoc’s Bai Dai (Long Beach) has a 15-kilometer coastline and is always admired for its crystal clear water. CNN said that Phu Quoc is fast becoming the country’s most popular new island destination. Daily motorcycle rentals at $5 a day and the $20 per night bungalows are among those highlighted.

Visitors to Phu Quoc can learn about its traditional local trades, including making fish sauce, planting peppers and breeding oysters for pearls. Bai Dai was also introduced by Australia’s ABC News in 2008 as one of the most beautiful, cleanest and unspoiled beaches in the world.

The list was topped by Grande Anse Beach, La Digue Island in Seychelles whose palm trees and warm blue waters were described as “the archetypal beach, the benchmark against which others must be judged.” Included in the top five were Grace Bay (Turks and Caicos Islands), Anse Source d’Argent (Seychelles) and Anse de Grande Saline (Saint Barthélemy).

Vietnam beaches continue to awe visitors with its natural, untouched beauty. Last year, two resorts in Hoi An – Life Heritage and Nam Hai – were included in the list of the top 15 resorts in Asia by the US magazine Conde Nast Traveler's Readers Choice Awards. The country expects more of its beaches to bring the country’s name across the world.
