The port city of Cái Rồng

d

There are different possibilities to reach the island of Quan Lan by boat. We opted for a crossing of the ferry from the small town of Cái Rồng. The town is located in the south of the island Vân Đồn in Quảng Ninh province, 220 kilometers north-east of Hanoi. Vân Đồn is connected by a bridge to the mainland since 2005. Cái Rồng has only about 7,000 inhabitants living mainly from fishing. In the neighborhood of the town there is also a nice beach. We arrived at Cái Rồng shortly after 12 clock. So we had an hour for parking, lunch and a few photos. The picturesque backdrop of the bustling harbor with its magnificent view of the steep limestone seems to have still not attracted many tourists yet. In the port itself, and in a small market fresh seafood is sold. In the village there are also a few overnight possibilities. The port of Cái Rồng is not only landing stage for the boats of fishermen. From here on the morning and early afternoon ferries go to the different islands of the Bay of the Dragonchildren (Vịnh Bái Tử Long). Of the approximately 600 larger islands of the bay only 25 are inhabited. Our ferry to Quan Lan took off shortly before 13:30 clock. The relatively slow old wooden boat needed with stops at some small islands and a very quiet lake abaut 2 1/2 hours. By ever new beautiful views of bigger, small and micro limestone islands the ride was never boring. many greetings Cathrin Cathrin’s Blog: Zwischen Traditionen und Moderne
