Hoi An is an attraction at all! For us the most beautiful town in Central Vietnam. The whole old part of the town belongs to the world cultural heritage. Approx. 800 houses stand here on the list, usually timber buildings or colonial houses with beautifully ornamental wood balconies from the early 19th Century. The main landmark from Hoi An is however the old Japanese bridge one of the most photographed motives here. It was so fantastically to stroll along the small lanes, the market or at the riverside. In many of the reconditioned old houses you can find nice restaurants, galleries, and naturally the multicoloured shops with Chinese lanterns. When we were there, the people celebrated the UNESCO world cultural heritage festival. One of the highlights at the evening was a fashion show in the lanes of the old town, which was also shown even in the TV by the next day. It was a great show! Nearly all inhabitants of Hoi An watched this event, and we of course, too. Otherwise, Hoi An is a sleepy and calm riverside town with 80.000 people, a bustling large market, a port and rurally surroundings. We think a really good mixture. Also the beach approx. 4 km far away from the town is not very populated. Up to a few Resorts, small beach restaurants with beach chairs, you are here still undisturbed. But this will change soon, because Hoi An booms. For us here it was very, very wonderful and we had the impression that tradition and modern live here goes hand in hand. Vivien’s und Erhard’s Blog
